Threading Hair Removal
What Is Threading Hair Removal
Threading Hair Removal is an ancient Middle Eastern technique that involves two strings tied around each other in a crisscross shape and then rubbed against the skin where the hair is located. The individual hairs get trapped in the tiny lasso that’s created by the cross and the movement of the string pulls them gently right out of the follicle. This method is extremely fast and precise for dealing with hair that needs to be trimmed in just a certain way. If you’re one of the many people with troublesome eyebrows that you can’t ever seem to get even no matter how hard you try, threading hair removal is for you. This article will go over some of the things you should know about threading hair removal such as where the technique came from and how it got started along with the pros and cons from using this method.
History
The history of threading hair removal is an obscure one at best. Even today, it is unsure of where exactly this hair removal technique came from but we suspect that it may have arisen in Turkey. What’s more noticeable, however, is that it’s definitely a widely known practice in the Middle East and India where women learn the threading method in the early teens or even earlier. In these cultures, it is quite common for women to routinely practice the threading hair removal method. On the contrary, it is rather difficult to find a professional elsewhere in the world that is qualified to perform the procedure. Many cities in the United States also require a permit to practice threading hair removal.
Pros
The threading hair removal method is clean and neat as it doesn’t involve any materials left behind on the skin after the hair is pulled. Think of it kind of like a haircut for your face. All you’ll have left over is little hairs that may or may not stick to your skin and make it itch but a quick shower will cure that right up. There’s no messes, no goos, and no weird side effects. There’s also no equipment (aside from the two threads) that needs to be setup nor any chance of getting something on your clothes.
The threading hair removal procedure is extremely accurate and can allow a professional to easily skid across your face, removing any hairs as they go. The threading method is an art that allows the person giving the procedure to encorporate your hair and skin into that art. With many types of hair removal techniques, you end up with uneven eyebrows or blotches of hair that were missed the first time around. With the threading method, however, you don’t have to worry about that.
Another good thing about threading hair removal is that there aren’t any chemicals that you have to put on your skin. Often times, these types of hair removal chemicals can cause rashes and other skin irritations such as tenderness, itching, and even organ failure in some circumstances in which the person is allergic to the chemical or they are taking some other type of medication that could interfere with the chemicals. Whatever the case may be, threading hair removal doesn’t involve any chemicals whatsoever. Like I said, it’s just pulling hairs out.
Threading is a very fast procedure and can be performed in a matter of minutes. This is good news because most people don’t want to sit in a chair all day getting their hair removed like waxing and other hair removal methods sometimes require.
Cons
One con for threading is the fact that if the procedure is done incorrectly then the hairs could break rather than be pulled out. Generally as long as you have a professional who’s actually trained in the art of threading hair then you should be fine. It’s when you have someone inexperienced such as an American cosmetologist or a friend who just happened to read a tutorial online performing the procedure that things go wrong. In case you didn’t know, broken hairs grow back faster and they can also grow in different directions which makes it look ridiculous.
The main con of threading is that it isn’t very easy to find someone who knows how to do it. In fact, it might prove to be rather difficult depending on where you live. If you live in a big city then you should be able to find a professional “threader” in the Muslim or Indian neighborhoods but if you live in a rural area or a small town then you may have to travel a bit to find a qualified person to do it for you. It’s not something you can just learn online either. You have to actually learn it and practice it until it becomes as natural as tying your shoes.
As can be expected with a method that involves yanking hairs out, you have to have some level of hair growth before you can get this done. With chemicals, you can just let it soak in and damage your hair follicles; not so with threading. 1/16 of an inch should do it. So just go a few days without shaving before you plan to get the hair removed. It sounds like a contradiction, I know, but you can’t get it done otherwise.
The threading method is almost always performed on the face only. There have been cases where threading is used on other parts of the body but it takes longer. When threading is done on the face it only takes minutes because there’s less hair to deal with. When threading is performed on large areas like the back or chest then there’s a lot more hair to take out which means longer waiting time and also more pain. I have heard of threading being done on the legs, which seems second most frequent to the face. Not so much as a con just a heads-up.
I hope that this article has given you some insight on what to expect with threading hair removal. Another thing to remember, though, is that you don’t need to be perfect. This method will help you accurately “trim the hedges” of your facial hair features but there’s no reason at all to freak out about the beautiful features that you were naturally given. Use this method if it’ll make you feel better but you should also accept who you are as a human being and not worry about the insignificant things like a few misplaced hairs.
